Is it more difficult to buy a property through FSBO...?

Generally speaking NO in many ways it is easier as you will be dealing direct with the owner.
By dealing direct with the owner you are in the best possible position to negotiate the lowest price.  In many cases it will be a faster process as you will not be dealing with agents and offers and counter offers.

The rule here is negotiate - negotiate!

Do I need a lawyer to buy a property in Turkey...?

Whilst it is not legally necessary or a requirement to appoint a lawyer when purchasing/selling property in Turkey we would strongly advise you take the normal precautions prior to completing a sale/purchase and appoint a suitable qualified lawyer (who speaks your own language) to act in your best interests and on your behalf.

You should ensure that you fully understand any sales contract before signing and you should make sure you receive a copy in your own language.

If after visiting a property a sale is agreed and you are not able to complete formalities it would be normal practise in Turkey to give 'Power of Attorney' to a trusted person to complete any transaction and sign documents on your behalf.  You should limit this power of attorney to cover just the sale/purchase of the named property.

In a nutshell take the normal steps as far as is possible as you would do in your own country when selling/buying a property in Turkey.
