GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Fethiye with its cultural wealth, natural beauty and geography, is
one of the more important tourism centers of
Turkey. It is famous for its works of art belonging to the
Persians, Lycians, Carians and Romans. Once a great Lycian city
dating back to the 6th Century B.C., traces of the ancient
settlement can still be seen. The most magnificent of these is the
Temple Tomb of Amytas perched imperiously on the face of the cliff
east of the old city, as well as many scattered sarcophagi and the
ruins of an old castle believed to have been constructed by the
Knights of St John. Recent excavations have uncovered an ancient
amphitheatre in the heart of the town.

the area and you will find all the shops you will need including,
banks, change offices, ATM's, main post office, chemists and
supermarkets. A visit to the local market held on Tuesday is an
opportunity for a bargain not to be missed.
